Special Needs Learn to Skate

What is Special Needs Learn to Skate?

Special Needs Learn to Skate is an inclusive skating program focused on creating opportunities for skaters with unique physical and/or developmental needs to experience fun on the ice, enable participation in sports and provide basic skill development. Based on Sport Canada’s long term athlete development (LTAD) principles, Special Needs Learn to Skate centers on physical literacy and the fundamental skills needed to take part in any adaptive ice sport or to skate as a recreational activity.

Who’s it for?
For beginning skaters with little to no experience, as well as for those wishing to improve their basic skills whether their focus be for figure skating, hockey, speed skating or just skating for fun.

Who teaches it?
Skate Canada NCCP-trained professional coaches, assisted by trained program assistants.

What can you expect?
Our goal is include every child who wants to learn to skate so that they can be a part of action, movement and fun on the ice! With lower skater to coach ratios we are able to provide individualized approach.

What do you need to participate?
All you need are skates, a CSA-approved hockey helmet, long pants, mittens, warm sweater or jacket. Dress in layers – it will get warm!

 

NEW since 2022! Subsidies are available to reduce the cost of of classes for eligible participants in this inclusive skating program!
