CanPowerSkate is an action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations. Skaters must be 6 years old or older to register.

The classes will be taught by coach Candice Campbell-Behm who has been a professional skating coach since 1998.

Candice completed a Bachelor of Science degree, a physical education diploma and personal fitness trainer certificate. She is a national certified coach and chartered professional coach with Skate Canada and has coached at Nationals, Provincials, the AB Winter Games and a team lead for Western Canadians. Candice is also a personal fitness trainer at the Glencoe Club.

Candice specializes in skating skills, edge work and agility and has mentored off coaches who were former players from various NHL teams. Her eye for the mechanics and edges forms from her years of being a competitive athlete and over 20 yeas of coaching experience.

Candice works with players ranging from Learn to Skate to players in Junior and college  and has over 2000 hours of experience with preschool aged children which has helped her design a program that effectively teaches the fundamental of go forward and backwards, turns and stop that is customized for the level on the ice so athletes build a foundation of skating skills. She believes eventually fast forward skating catches up to a player. What separates a great hockey player from a good hockey player is skating skills.

Candice believes:

  • skating skills should always be worked on throughout the periodization of a hockey player's training;
  • in helping athletes achieve their goals in a positive environment that pushes the athlete to become the best version of them self.

Candice has volunteered with Community hockey as the Timbits coordinator and for 6 years with Novice to Pee Wee evaluations. She has been a league chair with Hockey Calgary for 3 years and with the Macs Midget for 2 years and the Canada Games.
